A Player Development Academy.
Based at Timberhill Tennis Club in Corvallis, VTA is the Willamette Valley’s home for junior tennis — taking players from their first joyful forehand to tournament-ready, college-bound athletes. Injury Update: Julia Sidelined After Foot Burn Incident
Over the weekend, Julia suffered a serious injury during a trip to Nye Beach when she accidentally stepped on a hot coal buried just beneath the sand. She was rushed to the emergency room and treated for severe second- and third-degree burns on her foot. While the injury will keep her off the court and out of training for a little while as she recovers, the entire Valley Tennis Academy community is sending her our warmest thoughts, strength, and support. We can’t wait to see her back on the court stronger than ever!

Cami Schermerhorn
Assistant Coach
Specialty: Biomechanics & Injury-Preventive Technique
"My teaching style is all about basics and solid mechanics to maximize both power and consistency, while avoiding injuries from putting undue strain on joints and muscles."
Cami grew up in Bakersfield, California. She started playing tennis at age six, competing in local tournaments at age 9, playing nationally at 12, and then professionally starting just before her 16th birthday. She traveled globally on the WTA Women's Tour from 1982 until 1996. She won 2 titles on the tour, and has career wins over Steffi Graf, Zina Garrison, Helena Sukova, and Chris Evert. She reached the semi-finals of the French Open in 1984, and won several matches at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, and the Australian Open in singles as well as doubles during her career. After she ended her professional tennis career, Cami attended college at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she double-majored in Psychology and Communications and minored in German; she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Cami then received a Fulbright Scholarship in 2001 to do graduate research in Germany, a country she became very fond of through her professional tennis days. She stayed on beyond the Fulbright year and took advantage of an opportunity to earn a Master's degree in Psychology in Germany; she lived in Wuerzburg, Germany for five years in this venture. Although she had planned to become a sports psychologist, her life course was changed after a very serious car accident. Cami then moved to Eugene, Oregon in 2006 to marry her now-husband. She worked as a therapist at a mental health agency in Eugene for 14 years. She and her husband relocated to Corvallis in 2021; she opened her own neurofeedback practice in downtown Corvallis in 2024. Cami has taught tennis lessons since ending her pro career in 1996 in conjunction with studying and working, and she has taught pickleball lessons since 2018. Her teaching style is all about basics and solid mechanics to maximize both power and consistency as well as to avoid injuries from putting undue strain on joints and muscles.
